Membership
Japan Materials Management Association (JMMA) is a voluntary organization. The main sources of revenue are membership fees,business operations revenues, as well as corporate contributions to the association.
Objectives
JMMA aims to promote the rationalization of management practices in the fields of materials planning,purchasing,inventory control,subcontracting, warehousing,value engineering and laws,rules and regulations. In order to increase business income,JMMA conducts research in related subjects, jointly between business executives and branch or department managers and practitioners as well as other competent authorities and academics. At the same time,JMMA endeavors to disseminate information on various topics and cultivating mutual friendship.
JMMA Milestones
The JMMA believes that an effective materials management and purchasing policy can contribute substantially to promoting productivity and improvements in business management. These are very real concerns in a country poor in natural resources,like Japan.
The first nationwide meeting of the organizers met on May 20,1958 at Japan Industrial Club,they agreed to call another meeting on August of the same year. In this meeting they formally founded the Japan Materials Association (JMA). At that time,the "Materials Manager" title was being loosely used by certain purchasing managers in certain group research activities,there was no nationwide association embracing Purchasing Professionals or whole agencies. Since then,Japan Materials Management Association has exerted effort in coming out with better publication materials,as well as further improving its educational and international exchange. In May 1976,the association decided to change its name from Japan Materials Association (JMA) to today's Japan Materials Management Association (JMMA).
JMMA's main aim is to coordinate activities and sponsor studies concerning problems related to materials,purchasing and their relative fields. It is also concerned with observing actual implementation in coordination with practicing managers,government researchers,scientific societies and private enterprises. JMMA also wishes to promote mutual friendship through which it contributes to practical business management.
Business Activities
In order to accomplish its objectives,JMMA carries out the following activities
- Lectures and Seminars on Materials Management,Planning,Purchasing, Subcontracting,Inventory,Warehousing,Transportation,Value Engineering, and pertinent laws and regulations. The JMMA is also holds Materials Management Certification Examinations,study tours,annual and social meetings.
- Professional books and pamphlets.
- Collection and dissemination of research data.
- To providing a venue for the free-flow of ideas,opinions and data related to Materials Management and the other fields mentioned above, Research,study,guidance,education and consultation,connected with management practical business above mentioned sectors.
- Consultation services for private enterprises.
- Communication,cooperation and data exchange with related organizations both home and abroad.
- Organizing familiarization tours for Materials Management both in Japan and abroad.
- Other business necessary to attain the objectives of the association.
